Whom do you trust?

My husband, a business instructor at a college in about 2012 or so, was told by a banker friend, that the government had gathered in bank leaders in 2008 and ordered them all to take money from the government, because if the people knew which banks had actually failed, there would be panic. So the government actively covered up whose malfeasance had caused the crash; sounds like everybody was in bed with everybody else and nobody wanted to admit it. There was no way to put all the blame on one; I think they would have if they could have. The economic system survived to wobble on another few years, which means when the bubble gum and paperclips finally do give way, there will be nothing left to prop up, and very little trust in each other with which to build another system. I know religious leaders as a class are taking a beating, revealing bad actors, corruption, power and money-grubbing. But I really believe that religious groups, where there is real trust, will be a major positive influence in the coming days. When government and corporations both let you down, who do you turn to? Family, and people with common beliefs.
