Instructions for now

Today in church one of the speakers said that prophets are popularly believed to be predicting the future, telling us what's going to happen. I realized that, yes, it would be interesting and frightening and cool to know exactly what's going to happen, but our living prophet gives us something much more important than those details. The prophet, Dallin H. Oaks, tells us what we should be doing to prepare. He warns us of what we need to work on, and he encourages us to keep looking to God for guidance and reassurance. He tells us the reassurance God has given to him, and he reminds us that we can each know for ourselves what we should be doing to accomplish God's work. We progress one step at a time; God's Spirit doesn't tell us all the details at once. Just today, just instructions for now.

It is enough.
