For profit schools
Education is necessary for our survival; I homeschooled seven children over 27 years and graduated all of them from homeschool high school. I did not take government money to homeschool. I chose to homeschool because the government tax funded schools were not a good fit. I can do better and my children thrived. We did have problems, but we would have had problems regardless of what form of education we used. My husband and I looked at private schools, briefly; the price tags were much too expensive. My husband worked very hard to ensure that I could stay home and educate our children myself.
Now, government tax funded schools are useful; they fill a need for people who don't have enough education themselves or don't have the ability to teach their children themselves, and who don't have the money to pay someone to teach their children. Private schools also fill a need; there are people who choose not to teach their children themselves who would rather pay someone to teach. What I do NOT want to see is any government tax money going to for-profit schools.
When government pays a company to set up a school, that company has incentive to inflate the cost. There’s no way to ensure they're actually teaching in the best ways possible. Private schools, paid for by parents or donations from wealthy people, have incentive to abide by what the parents and donors demand, which in most cases is a quality education. Any school set up simply to make money, "for profit", is in the wrong business and children are likely to be hurt by it. Teaching children is the long game; it only pays off when the children are grown and earning their own living elsewhere.
