Act as for years

I remember in 2002 my husband lost his job and after trying to negotiate with our mortgage company, we filed for bankruptcy because they wouldn't budge. After bankruptcy papers were filed, Washington Mutual wanted to work with us; we said, too late. They had to take the house, which I felt badly about, since I wanted to pay our debts. But God told me to let it go. We had tried. He said He had plans for them. Washington Mutual was one of those that folded, apparently rightly so. My husband and I had not been irresponsible, but many others were, including the lenders encouraging people to borrow excessively and leveraging their risky mortgages.

We were renting during the housing bust. I hadn't realized until today, that that was part of God's plan for our family. We started looking for a house to buy in Wisconsin, five years before we moved to Indiana. None of the houses we looked at were the right one. We looked at a lot of houses!

When in 2011 my husband switched jobs, we were led to the right house, after our Fort Wayne realtor took us through a large number of houses that were not it. Shawn and I both knew this was the right house for us. In 2017 when Shawn started making noises about switching careers again, I wanted to stay here. I'm glad we did. I don't know what the finances of the country are going to do, but I'm acting on this house as if I'm going to be here for years. That's how God wants me to act: plan for the future and live wisely today.
