To parents of a gifted child
About giftedness: it's a label. It simply means a child can do what they (whoever that is) want him to do academically. It probably does not mean, in childhood, any more than that. He has the ability to jump through academic hoops, but anxiety may be an indicator of him losing motivation. School can seem a constant treadmill, set to slow, that he cannot change. I'd read _A Thomas Jefferson Education_ by Oliver DeMille. It will help parents clarify what they're trying to accomplish. It strongly encourages leadership education, useful to people who are going to step outside the bland norm—and to people pushed outside the norm, which is everyone. Tailor your education to you and yours.
