Our cars

My current vehicle is a Ford Escape, so I call it my "Ess-KAH-pay", sounds like escape in Dory's voice. We used to drive Sapphire (blue Dodge Caravan), before that Ruby (red Dodge Caravan), before that Dixie (15 passenger white Dodge van), before that "Rusty, the tan van", in which you could move the carpet aside and watch the road rush by beneath your feet.
We had a Buick Skylark before that, but my children don't consciously remember it; I remember it because we bought it used and it threw a rod shortly after we bought it. The garage we bought it from put another engine in it, which then threw a rod. We sold it cheap to a woman who had them put another engine in it. We heard later that her engine also threw a rod.
Before that was a brown sedan; I bumped the door on something hard enough to remove the decorative metal strip across the middle of it. My husband complained that lowered its resale value. I questioned incredulously, "We were thinking of reselling it?" A valid question, since before that we had a 1983 Chevy Malibu (in 1992) that I had totaled by turning left in front of someone, and before that we had a 1973 yellow Vega with an aluminum engine block that leaked oil so badly you had to add oil every time you put gas in it. It had died when the engine block cracked clear through and it spouted oil.
Who actually buys new cars?
